For a post-graduate online nursing course, I was the Graphic Designer at the University of Melbourne assigned to create a couple of short animated videos including the Four main pathways of abnormal intracellular accumulations. As animation is often quite time resource heavy, working together with the key stakeholders including the Academic lead, Learning Designer and Video Production team, we were able to formulate a desireable outcome that resulted in what the Academic had envisioned.
Meetings with the Academic Lead and understanding their brief as well as getting an overall feel of the learning subject matter were very important for the process. Together with some suggested visual reference and research, I made draft illustrations of the cells and the various stages in Illustrator and put them into an audio and visual storyboard document. This storyboard was crucial for both the Video Production team to have an idea of timing, audio requirements such as voice overs, sound effects and background music and for the Academic to review the accuracy of the content and script itself.
The final product was a 2 minute animated video. I provided all the final illustration assets as working scalable vector files in Illustrator as well as background images in Photoshop for the Video Editor to animate.
